Enter the temple complex from the main eastern entrance, facing the rising sun — symbolic of Surya's chariot riding eastward. Purchase your ASI entry ticket here.
Begin with the Nata Mandir (dance hall) — an elevated platform with carved pillars showing musicians and dancers. This is where temple dancers once performed.
The 100-foot Jagamohana is the main surviving structure. Admire its pyramidal roof and the extraordinary stone carvings on its exterior walls — mythological scenes, celestial beings, and erotic sculptures.
Walk along the base platform to see the famous 24 carved stone wheels (each about 3 metres in diameter). These function as sundials — the shadow cast by the spokes indicates the time of day.
End your visit at the ASI Archaeological Museum near the temple entrance. It houses sculptures, carvings, and fragments recovered from the temple complex.
Please follow these guidelines to maintain the sanctity of the temple
