Katarmal Sun Temple near Almora is the second most important sun temple in India after Konark. Built in the 9th century by the Katyuri kings, this ASI-protected temple cluster has 45 smaller shrines. The main temple faces east and the first rays of the sun illuminate the sanctum on the equinox.
