Govardhan Hill (Daan Ghati Temple)

Govardhan Hill holds immense significance in Hindu mythology as the mountain that Lord Krishna lifted on his little finger for seven days to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from Indra's torrential rains. The Govardhan Parikrama (21 km circumambulation of the hill) is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in the Braj region. Daan Ghati Temple on the hill is where Krishna is believed to have collected toll (daan) from the gopis. Devotees carry or roll on the parikrama path as an act of devotion. The hill itself is worshipped as a form of Krishna.
