Ensure traditional attire before arriving. Men wear only mundu (bare chest). Women wear saree or salwar. Deposit mobile phones, cameras, bags, and footwear at designated counters near the entrance.
Free darshan queue starts from the eastern entrance. For faster access, book special darshan online via Guruvayur Devaswom website (Rs 25-200). Archana and Tulabharam can also be booked online.
Enter the Chuttambalam (inner courtyard) and proceed to the sanctum. The four-armed deity Guruvayoorappan (Lord Krishna) holds conch, discus, mace, and lotus. Darshan is brief during peak hours — focus your prayers.
Complete clockwise circumambulation of the main shrine. Visit the Sastha (Ayyappa) shrine and the Krishna statue in the outer courtyard. Observe the magnificent elephants in the Anakottil (elephant compound).
Collect the famous Guruvayur Appam and Payasam prasadam from the counter. Exit through the western gate and visit the Mammiyoor Shiva Temple directly opposite (considered incomplete without this visit).
