About Nartiang Durga Temple

The Nartiang Durga Temple is a 500-year-old Hindu temple located in Nartiang village in the Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. Dedicated to Goddess Durga, it is considered one of the Shakti Peeths and was the summer capital of the Jaintia kings. The temple houses an ancient stone image of Goddess Durga and is surrounded by a remarkable collection of monoliths (menhirs and dolmens) that are among the tallest in India, some reaching up to 8 meters in height. The temple and its surrounding monolith park reflect the unique blend of Hindu and indigenous Khasi-Jaintia culture of the region.
