Enter through the traditional gateway and walk across the stone bridge over Ananthapura Lake to reach the temple island. Observe the serene lake and look for Babiya, the legendary vegetarian crocodile who guards the temple.
Enter the temple and take darshan of Lord Padmanabha (Vishnu) in the sanctum. This is believed to be the Moolasthanam (original seat) of the deity before it moved to Thiruvananthapuram.
Walk around the temple on the narrow path along the lake's edge. The island setting surrounded by the pristine lake creates a deeply spiritual atmosphere unlike any other temple.
If Babiya the crocodile is visible, the priest may offer it food. Collecting prasadam and sitting by the lake for contemplation is a peaceful way to conclude your visit.
