Begin the 6 km trek from Janki Chatti early morning. The trail passes through dense forests and alpine meadows with views of Bandarpunch peak. Rest stops with tea and snacks are available. Ponies and palki are alternatives.
Before entering the temple, visit Surya Kund — a natural boiling hot water spring. Pilgrims tie rice and potatoes in muslin cloth and dip them in the hot spring to cook. This cooked food is offered as prasad to Goddess Yamuna.
Near the temple, take a dip or wash in the warm waters at the Divya Shila (sacred rock) area. The water here is naturally warm from the thermal springs, making it comfortable despite the cold altitude.
Enter the small wooden temple built in 1839 by Maharaja of Tehri. View the black marble idol of Goddess Yamuna. The temple is small and darshan is usually quick. Offer the prasad cooked at Surya Kund.
