Begin the 2 km trek from Kaddukhal through pine and oak forests. The trail gradually opens up to alpine meadows with increasingly dramatic Himalayan views. Stone steps mark the final approach.
Enter the small hilltop temple dedicated to Goddess Surkanda (Parvati), where her head (Sir/Surk) is believed to have fallen. The temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and houses a naturally formed rock representing the goddess.
Walk around the summit for one of the finest 360-degree panoramas in the Garhwal Himalayas. On clear days, see Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, and the Gangotri group of peaks.
