Start the 3.5 km trek from Chopta (2,680m) early morning for clear views. The trail winds through rhododendron forests (spectacular blooms in May-June) and alpine meadows. Moderate difficulty with steady incline.
Reach the ancient stone temple at 3,680m — the world's highest Shiva temple and second Panch Kedar. The small temple houses a Shiva lingam where Lord Shiva's arms (Bahu) are believed to have appeared. Darshan is intimate and peaceful.
From Tungnath, climb the additional 1.5 km (steep) to Chandrashila peak at 4,000m. The summit offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Bandarpunch, Kedarnath, and Chaukhamba peaks. This is the highlight of the trek.
