Begin at Agni Theertham (the sea beach) adjacent to the eastern gopuram of the temple. A dip in the sea here is considered the first of the 22 sacred baths (Theerthams).
Purchase a Rs 25 ticket to take the sacred bath at the 22 wells (Theerthams) inside the temple complex. Each well has water of different taste and temperature. This unique ritual is an essential part of the Rameswaram pilgrimage.
Change into dry clothes after the Theertham bath (wet clothes not allowed inside the sanctum). Enter the main temple and take darshan of the Jyotirlinga and the Spatika Lingam (crystal Shiva Linga).
Walk through the magnificent corridor, the longest temple corridor in India (197m x 133m). Visit the Parvati shrine, Nandi, and other subsidiary shrines. The ornate pillared corridors are an architectural marvel.
