Khandoba Temple in Jejuri is dedicated to Lord Khandoba (a form of Shiva), one of the most popular deities in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The temple is famous for the unique tradition of showering turmeric (bhandara) on devotees and the deity. The hilltop temple is reached by climbing 200+ steps, and during festivals like Somvati Amavasya, the entire hill turns golden yellow with turmeric. Khandoba is worshipped as a warrior god and protector of the Deccan. The Champa Shashthi festival (six-day event in December) is the grandest celebration.
