The Ambernath Shiva Temple, built in 1060 CE during the Shilahara dynasty, is one of the oldest surviving stone temples in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The temple is an excellent example of Hemadpanthi architecture with intricate carvings depicting stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and scenes of daily life from 11th-century India. Protected by the ASI as a monument of national importance, the temple's detailed stone work on its shikhara, walls, and pillars rivals the famous Khajuraho temples. The annual Maha Shivaratri fair here draws over 500,000 devotees.
