Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple

Omkareshwar Temple on Mandhata Island in the Narmada River houses one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The island itself is shaped like the sacred Hindu symbol Om when viewed from above, giving the temple its name. The temple complex actually contains two Jyotirlinga shrines — Omkareshwar on the island and Amareshwar (Mamaleshwar) on the south bank. The ancient stone architecture features beautiful carvings, and the location on the island surrounded by the Narmada creates a deeply spiritual atmosphere. A sacred parikrama of the island takes about 3 hours.
