Maihar Sharda Devi Temple

Sharda Devi Temple in Maihar sits atop the Trikuta Hill (600m), one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is reached by climbing 1,063 steps or by ropeway. Goddess Sharda (a form of Saraswati/Durga) is the presiding deity. The legendary musician Alauddin Khan (guru of Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan) was a devotee who climbed these steps daily for decades. The panoramic views from the hilltop are breathtaking. During Navaratri, the temple sees massive crowds from across central India.
