Arrive at Vaikom town and approach the temple from the main road. Change into traditional attire — men must be bare-chested with mundu. Deposit electronics and footwear at the counter.
Walk through the impressive gopuram entrance into the temple compound. The temple has a powerful spiritual atmosphere befitting one of South India's oldest Shiva shrines.
Proceed to the sanctum for darshan of the ancient Shiva Lingam, believed to date back to the Treta Yuga. The Lingam radiates immense spiritual energy. Offer prayers and Abhishekam.
Reflect on the temple's role in the Vaikom Satyagraha (1924-25), a landmark civil rights movement. Visit the memorial nearby. Collect prasadam before departing.
