Talakadu is a mysterious town on the banks of the Kaveri River where several ancient temples have been buried under sand dunes over centuries. According to legend, a queen's curse caused the temples of this once-flourishing Ganga dynasty capital to be swallowed by sand. The Vaidyanatheswara and Pathaleshwara temples are among the five Shiva lingams (Pancha Lingams) that have been excavated. The Panchalinga Darshana during special occasions draws devotees to see all five simultaneously.
