Shamlaji Temple (also called Galteshwar) on the banks of the Meshwo River is an ancient Vishnu temple dating back to the 5th-6th century. The temple houses a beautiful black stone idol of Lord Vishnu (also known as Shamlaji or Galteshwar Mahadev for the Shiva shrine nearby). The annual Shamlaji Fair during Kartik Purnima is one of Gujarat's largest fairs, drawing over 2 million visitors from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The temple is near the Gujarat-Rajasthan border and showcases a blend of Maru-Gurjara architectural styles.
