Head to Kachari Ghat (Uzan Bazar) in Guwahati. Board a government ferry (Rs 40 return) or private boat. The ride across the Brahmaputra takes 10-15 minutes. Ferries operate from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
From the island jetty, climb the stone steps that wind up the hill. The island is the world's smallest inhabited river island. Enjoy views of the Brahmaputra and Guwahati skyline during the climb.
The main temple houses a Shiva Linga. Take darshan and offer prayers. The temple is small but atmospheric, surrounded by ancient trees and the sound of the river.
Walk around the small island, visit the subsidiary shrines, and watch for golden langurs (an endangered primate species found here). Take the ferry back to the mainland.
