Mangalagiri Panakala Narasimha Temple

The Panakala Narasimha Swamy Temple on Mangalagiri Hill is unique because the deity accepts jaggery water (panakam) as offering. When poured into the mouth of the main idol, the liquid disappears - half is consumed by the deity and half returned as prasadam. The hill temple has been revered since the Satavahana period (2nd century BCE) and is one of the eight Narasimha Swamy Kshetras. The lower hill temple of Lakshmi Narasimha is also significant.
