Vishishtadvaita: Qualified Non-Dualism

Imagine two friends arguing. One says "we are all one." The other says "no, we are all separate." Then a third friend walks in and says, "you are both right — just not completely." That is Vishishtadvaita in a nutshell. Ramanujacharya, the 11th-century philosopher-saint, looked at both Advaita and Dvaita and found a middle path. Yes, there is ultimate unity — but within that unity, real differences exist. Souls and matter are real parts of God, the way your body is a real part of you.
